Title: Conexiones CD-Rom

Level: High School

Timeframe: Three - four 45-minute class periods

Materials Needed: Conexiones CD-Rom (IBM version) to accompany text by Eduardo Zayas-Bazán, Susan Bacon and Dulce García

Activities: Each chapter has four corresponding activities:

  1. Correo: Students read an e-mail message written to them and can look at two pictures related to the note. They then respond to it by writing a letter in Spanish, and can save it to disk, or print it.
  2. Kiosco: Students read an article related to the chapter and complete an activity. There are comprehension questions and then a directed search that can be completed using other sources. This is a directed research, with specific procedural steps given. Students are reading, writing, and connecting to other things. There is a WWW icon to allow for an internet search while you are using the CD-Rom.
  3. A conversar: Listening/ speaking - Students click on "Play question" and listen to a native speaker asking a question of a second person. Students can then record an answer and play it back to listen to themselves and/or listen to a second native speaker giving their response to compare. There are approximately five.
  4. A jugar: By answering multiple-choice questions correctly, a photo puzzle related to the theme is uncovered. This task involves reading, critical thinking and visuals. There are approximately five.
